Citizens of Sa’wan and Sheraton zones in the area around the US embassy in Sana’a are complaining about the intensity of security checks in their neighborhood. Apparently these two, who are apparently related to President Saleh, are the son and nephew of senior military commander. Military intelligence and national security began investigating them after it was discovered that the vehicle involved in the Bombing of the U.S. embassy in Sana’a was linked to them, and it is alleged that they partially financed an al-Qaeda cell.
Shooting broke out at a checkpoint outside the U.S. embassy in Yemen on Monday, but Yemeni officials gave different accounts of the incident.
One official said it appeared to have been security forces firing in the air to warn an approaching car.
