The security authorities uncovered the identity of the suicide bomber who blew himself up killing four S. Korean tourists and a Yemeni guide and wounding six others last Sunday in Shibam Hadramout. The security authorities said he was 18 years old and his name was Abdurrahman Mahdi Ali Qasem al-Ojiri, from Taiz province.
He used to live in al-Jamhori Hospital area in Taiz. He went to United States with his mother in 1995 for one year, and upon his arrival to Yemen, he was recruited last October by a person called Omer Hassan al-Mahfali al-Raimi wh took him to the Islamic Institute Center. He was away from home and stayed into hiding there until his return five days before the ‘Adhha Ied’-(an Islamic sacrifice celebration occasion).

Al-Ojiri name and picture was among the list of the 161 most wanted that was released by the ministry of interior two weeks ago.

Two months before his death he sent a letter to his mother, containing his will, and it ran as follows, “,  Dear mother, “I write to you with my eyes full of tears, but I believe this is the right pathway through which we can do good to ourselves. Dear mother I am sad for parting from you, but you should know that  God’s religion is not in need of us, but we are weak and we need God’s help. Our wealth and estate will be of no use to us. The only thing which is beneficial to us is the jihad (holy fighting.)  It is the only way for our salvation from excruciation. Please mother do not be angry at me and pray for god to grant me success, to be fearless and be a martyr. Please mother don’t listen to the liars who allege that this is a wrong way, and I am sure that God will show you that it is the right pathway. I would like to tell you that I thank God for feeling quite at ease. Please pray for me that I should not be arrested or imprisoned and  my greetings to dad, and the other family members.

Security sources said that, searching the bomber’s house disclosed, telephone numbers, important documents containing information about the parties that planned the attack, besides information that lead to terrorist elements involved in the Korean tourists’ attack. The source said that they arrested a number of suspects, and started interrogating them. The source explained that the security will chase up the perpetrators in this ugly attack and they will not get away with their crime.

An informed source at the ministry of Interior announced that their investigations disclosed that the terrorist attack against the South Korean tourists in Shibam while they were in Khaba Mount which is overlooking the city, was a terrorist operation carried out by one of al-Qaeda members who blew up himself near the tourists group.

The terrorist attack by a mislead youth against the Korean tourists in Shibam Hadramout was met with wide condemnation by all Yemeni community sectors, regarding it as an anti religious act.
